Trump Hopes to Rekindle Ties with Kim Jong Un During Asia Tour<\/strong><\/p>\n

With Donald Trump\u2019s Asia tour underway, the former U.S. president expressed eagerness to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, hoping to revive the headline-grabbing diplomacy that once defined their relationship.<\/p>\n

Back in 2018, Trump famously said he and Kim had \u201cfallen in love\u201d after exchanging letters. A year later, he made history by stepping across the border into North Korea, becoming the first sitting U.S. president to do so.<\/p>\n

Before his latest trip \u2014 with stops in Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan \u2014 Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One he\u2019d \u201clove to see\u201d Kim again if the North Korean leader was open to it. \u201cIf he wants to meet, I\u2019ll be in South Korea,\u201d Trump added with a grin.<\/p>\n

So far, Pyongyang has remained silent. U.S. and South Korean officials confirmed no meeting plans had been made, though Trump said he hoped to use discussions on international sanctions to bring Kim \u201cback to the table.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kim, meanwhile, hinted he might meet Trump again \u2014 but only if Washington drops its \u201cabsurd obsession with denuclearising us\u201d and accepts \u201cgenuine peaceful coexistence.\u201d He ruled out talks with South Korea for now.<\/p>\n

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who took office in June, said Trump\u2019s involvement could help ease tensions on the peninsula.<\/p>\n

However, just before Trump arrived in Seoul, North Korea test-fired cruise missiles off its western coast, signaling continued defiance. Trump later confirmed no meeting would take place, citing \u201ctiming\u201d issues but added, \u201cAt some point, we\u2019ll be involved with North Korea.
