A new Daily Mail\/J.L. Partners poll asked Americans how they\u2019d vote if that 2028 matchup were possible.<\/p>\n
Of course, the 22nd Amendment makes it impossible \u2014 both men have already served two terms. Still, Trump has repeatedly hinted at a third run, fueling speculation.<\/p>\n
Asked in April how he\u2019d feel about facing Obama, Trump said enthusiastically, \u201cI\u2019d love that\u2026 that would be a good one.\u201d He later added, \u201cPeople ask me to run for a third term. They say there\u2019s a way you can do it\u2026 I haven\u2019t looked into it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump made similar comments earlier this year, saying, \u201cA lot of people want me to do it\u2026 there are methods through which you could.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the legal limits, pollsters tested the fantasy matchup:<\/p>\n
52%<\/strong> said they\u2019d vote for Obama<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n 41%<\/strong> for Trump<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n By demographics:<\/p>\n 73% of Hispanic voters<\/strong> backed Obama<\/p>\n<\/li>\n 68% of Black voters<\/strong> did as well<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Obama was the only recent Democrat to beat Trump in such hypotheticals \u2014 Clinton and Harris both trailed him.<\/p>\n Obama won in 2008 and 2012; Trump followed in 2016, lost in 2020, and returned in 2024, defining U.S. politics for nearly 20 years.<\/p>\n Could they ever really face off? Highly unlikely \u2014 changing the Constitution would require two-thirds of Congress and 38 states.
