In his victory speech, Mamdani\u2014New York\u2019s first Muslim mayor\u2014said, \u201cI am young, I am Muslim, I am a democratic socialist. And most damning of all, I refuse to apologize for any of this.\u201d He added that the city had given \u201ca mandate for change\u201d and a \u201cgovernment that delivers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mamdani also addressed Donald Trump, who had threatened to cut federal funding if he won: \u201cDonald Trump, since I know you\u2019re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up.\u201d<\/p>\n
