The girls had wandered onto the tracks to take photos and waved at one train, unaware another was coming from the opposite direction.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"450\" data-end=\"631\">With only a few feet between the two trains, all three were hit. Essa and Kelsea died instantly; Savannah was taken to the hospital but later passed away from severe brain injuries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"633\" data-end=\"800\">Before the tragedy, Savannah had posted a selfie on Facebook showing a train\u2019s headlights approaching, captioned: \u201cStanding right by a train ahaha this is awesome!!!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"972\">Train conductor John Anderson recalled watching helplessly: \u201cThey were in their own little world\u2026 We saw them for about 12 seconds until they disappeared from our sight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"974\" data-end=\"1100\">Savannah briefly survived, and Anderson remembered telling her it would be okay. \u201cI hoped she would make it,\u201d he said quietly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three friends missed a haunting detail in a selfie that might have saved their lives.
