Zohran Mamdani hasn\u2019t even taken office yet, but he\u2019s already sparring with critics \u2014 including rapper 50 Cent, whose public attack the New York City mayor-elect met with humor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At 34, Mamdani will be the youngest NYC mayor since 1982 and the city\u2019s first Muslim mayor. A Democratic Socialist born in Uganda to Indian-Muslim parents and raised in Queens, he campaigned on tackling housing costs, expanding public services, and reducing inequality. His proposal to raise the corporate tax rate to 11.5% and add a 2% levy on incomes over $1 million has sparked fierce debate \u2014 hailed by supporters as fair reform and slammed by opponents as a threat to business.<\/p>\n

Clashing with Trump<\/strong>
After winning the Democratic primary, Mamdani drew fire from former President Donald Trump, who called him a \u201ccommunist lunatic.\u201d Mamdani responded during his victory speech: \u201cDonald Trump, since I know you\u2019re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up!\u201d He later said New York would show \u201chow to stop Trump \u2014 and the next one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Enter 50 Cent<\/strong>
50 Cent blasted Mamdani\u2019s tax plan on Instagram, joking he\u2019d buy the mayor-elect a \u201cone-way ticket out of New York.\u201d The rapper later posted \u201cRIP NYC\u201d graphics, claiming the city was \u201cover\u201d under Mamdani\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n

Mamdani responded lightheartedly on MSNBC\u2019s The Beat<\/em>, saying he learned his new $258,750 salary from 50 Cent\u2019s post: \u201cI was like, that\u2019s a very specific amount of money!\u201d Addressing the rapper directly, he added, \u201cHaving the top 1% pay 2% more to transform lives \u2014 including theirs \u2014 is worthwhile.\u201d<\/p>\n
