He was a devoted father to nine children and met several of his grandchildren before his untimely death.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"436\" data-end=\"640\">After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Landon faced his illness with courage, trying chemotherapy, natural remedies, and a vegetarian diet. Sadly, he passed just three months after his diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"642\" data-end=\"890\">By Father\u2019s Day 1990, his condition had worsened. On June 16, he told his wife, <strong data-start=\"722\" data-end=\"731\">Cindy<\/strong>, he was nearing the end. A nurse soon warned the family to gather, giving his children a chance to say goodbye. His final words to Cindy were, \u201cI love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"892\" data-end=\"1146\">Landon\u2019s son <strong data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"920\">Christopher<\/strong>, only sixteen at the time, later shared his grief and memories of learning about his father\u2019s illness. Though he regretted not apologizing for past hardships, he found comfort in believing he\u2019d see his father again someday.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1148\" data-end=\"1520\">Determined to honor his father\u2019s memory, Christopher promised to live authentically. At 24, he came out as gay, despite fears it might affect his father\u2019s image. While his mother initially struggled due to her faith, she and the rest of the family ultimately offered support.
