Before the election, they knew they voted differently. But after Trump\u2019s victory, Andrea felt devastated. She stayed in bed, doomscrolled, and cut ties with people who hadn\u2019t voted Democrat. Then she saw her husband\u2019s celebratory post: \u201cGod Bless America. God bless #45, 47.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n She was so upset she couldn\u2019t even look at him.<\/p>\n Andrea messaged him, asking him to remove the post \u201cout of respect\u201d for her and her friends. She also told him she wouldn\u2019t attend Thanksgiving with his family or host Christmas, saying she needed space.<\/p>\n Later, when he tried to ease the tension, she explained she couldn\u2019t pretend everything was fine: \u201cI will not be in a room of 15 people who voted for Trump.\u201d<\/em> For her, it was a moral boundary \u2014 she couldn\u2019t celebrate holidays with people who, in her view, supported policies harmful to women and vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n What surprised her most was that her husband didn\u2019t argue. He seemed to understand how deeply the election affected her, and she held onto that empathy as they tried to move forward.<\/p>\n \u201cI know he is a good man,\u201d she wrote \u2014 which made his political choice feel even more painful. He didn\u2019t delete the post, but she realized she couldn\u2019t change what had happened, only how she responded: with honesty, love, and yes, anger.<\/p>\n
