She first appeared on TV as a charming young blonde, but her life growing up was far from glamorous. Born in 1961, Sandra Lee was abandoned by her drug-addicted mother and raised on food stamps while caring for her younger siblings. By age 11, she was cooking, cleaning, and surviving abuse in a chaotic home.<\/p>\n

Sandra found comfort in her grandmother\u2019s kitchen, where her love for baking began. Those early struggles shaped her creativity and drive, eventually helping her build a career as a TV chef, producer, and bestselling author. She later became the star of Semi-Homemade Cooking<\/strong>, wrote 27 books, launched her own magazine, and even won an Emmy.<\/p>\n

Her personal life also made headlines \u2014 including her long relationship with former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo \u2014 but her biggest battle came in 2015, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent major surgeries. After recovering, she became a passionate advocate for cancer screening.<\/p>\n
