A housekeeper had left the window unlatched, and in a heartbreaking moment, Conor ran past and fell.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"371\" data-end=\"590\">The day before, Clapton had spent a joyful day alone with his son at the circus and promised to be a more present father. He also planned to take Conor to the Bronx Zoo the next day \u2014 a promise that was never fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"592\" data-end=\"774\">Devastated, Clapton withdrew from public life, returning his son\u2019s body to England for burial before isolating himself in Antigua for nearly a year, using music to survive his grief.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"776\" data-end=\"1035\">He later poured his pain into the song <em data-start=\"815\" data-end=\"835\">\u201cTears in Heaven,\u201d<\/em> written in Conor\u2019s memory.
