Lisa has Down syndrome, yet lived independently, worked full time, and maintained a healthy adult relationship. Despite common beliefs that men with Down syndrome are infertile, Lisa became pregnant\u2014and her family stood firmly by her decision to keep the child.<\/p>\n
Outsiders criticized Lisa, questioning her ability to be a mother. Still, she embraced pregnancy fully, attending classes and continuing to work, though her pregnancy was considered high risk. Her son Nic was born early and also has Down syndrome.<\/p>\n
Though Nic\u2019s father later passed away, Lisa and Patti raised him together. Today, Nic is a college graduate who credits his success to the love and support of his mother and grandmother.<\/p>\n
