Lara, a pitbull found abandoned and tied to a tree near the Greek port of Nafplion, is proof of that.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"269\" data-end=\"509\">Left without food or water, and avoided by neighbors fearful of her breed, Lara was pregnant and gave birth alone in the woods. Despite being malnourished and dehydrated, she protected and fed her puppies for 10 days until rescuers arrived.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"511\" data-end=\"750\">Though one puppy sadly didn\u2019t survive, four lived thanks to Lara\u2019s devotion. An animal welfare group rescued the family, and foster caregiver Linda from The Orphan Pet took them in.
