Matt Clark, the veteran character actor best known for Back to the Future Part III<\/em>, has died at 89.<\/p>\n

He passed away Sunday at his home in Austin, Texas, from complications following back surgery, his family confirmed. Over a decades-long career, Clark appeared in more than 120 film and TV projects, including Jeremiah Johnson<\/em> and many Westerns.<\/p>\n

His family said he valued people over fame and felt lucky to do what he loved. \u201cHe died the way he lived \u2014 on his terms,\u201d they shared.<\/p>\n

Fans remember him as Chester the bartender in Back to the Future Part III<\/em>, alongside Michael J. Fox\u2019s Marty McFly.<\/p>\n

Born November 25, 1936, in Washington, D.C., Clark built a steady Hollywood career from the late 1960s, known for his tough, understated roles. His TV credits include Gunsmoke<\/em>, Bonanza<\/em>, The Rockford Files<\/em>, and Little House on the Prairie<\/em>.<\/p>\n
