A mother from Namibia<\/span><\/span> noticed what seemed like a simple eye infection in her 16-month-old son, Juwan. But when treatment didn\u2019t work, doctors made a shocking diagnosis \u2014 he had contracted Herpes Simplex Virus<\/span><\/span> in his eye, likely from someone with a cold sore kissing him.<\/p>\n

The virus severely damaged his cornea, leaving him blind in that eye. At one point, doctors feared he could lose it completely as the eye began to deteriorate.<\/p>\n

His parents rushed him for specialized treatment in Cape Town<\/span><\/span>, where he underwent surgery to try to save the eye. More procedures are planned, including nerve transfer and a possible cornea transplant.<\/p>\n

Despite everything, Juwan has remained strong, even through intense pain.<\/p>\n

His mother later shared their story to raise awareness: even a simple kiss from someone with a cold sore can cause serious, irreversible harm to a child.<\/p>\n
