Joe Don Baker<\/span><\/span>, best known for playing Sheriff Buford Pusser<\/span><\/span> in Walking Tall<\/span><\/span><\/em>, has died at 89. His family announced his passing on May 7; no cause of death was revealed.<\/p>\n

Born in Groesbeck<\/span><\/span> in 1936, Baker served in the U.S. Army before studying acting in New York. He built a career playing tough, rugged characters, rising to fame with Walking Tall<\/em> (1973).<\/p>\n

He appeared in films like Charley Varrick<\/em>, The Natural<\/em>, and Cape Fear<\/em>, and had notable roles in the James Bond<\/span><\/span> series\u2014playing villain Brad Whitaker in The Living Daylights<\/em> and CIA agent Jack Wade in GoldenEye<\/em> and Tomorrow Never Dies<\/em>.<\/p>\n
