I thought I had married into a loving family\u2014until a generous offer from my mother-in-law turned into a life-changing conflict.<\/p>\n

My husband and I struggled for years to have a child, going through IVF with no success. During our lowest moment, his mother offered to be our surrogate. She was in her 50s, but fully prepared and insisted it was a gift. We agreed after medical and legal checks.<\/p>\n

When the embryo transfer worked on the first try, it felt like a miracle. But as the pregnancy went on, she became emotionally attached and started referring to the baby as \u201chers.\u201d<\/p>\n

When she gave birth, she refused to hand us our son, claiming she was the mother because she carried him. Doctors later said she was likely experiencing postpartum emotional distress, and we were eventually able to take our baby home. We named him Neil.<\/p>\n

But soon after, she began calling and claiming the baby was hers, even taking legal action. It became a painful family battle. In court, everything was clear\u2014the baby was legally and biologically ours\u2014and we were granted full custody.<\/p>\n

We later settled financially and cut contact, choosing to move on and protect our family.<\/p>\n
