The family of Ernie Dosio, a 75-year-old California vineyard owner, is speaking out after his death during a hunting trip in Gabon, saying details of the incident remain unclear.<\/p>\n

Dosio was on a guided expedition in the Lop\u00e9-Okanda rainforest when a herd of elephants suddenly charged, killing him and seriously injuring his guide. The attack happened on April 17 while they were tracking a rare antelope. Dense vegetation reportedly hid the animals until it was too late. The guide was struck first, leaving Dosio exposed with only a shotgun meant for small game.<\/p>\n

His ex-wife said the family initially received conflicting reports about what happened, calling the situation confusing and shocking.<\/p>\n

Dosio had reportedly paid about $40,000 for the trip. After his death, images of his trophy hunting collection circulated online, sparking backlash. Comedian Ricky Gervais also drew criticism for making a controversial joke about the incident.<\/p>\n
