Mariclare Costello<\/span><\/span>, best known to fans of The Waltons<\/span><\/span> as teacher Rosemary Hunter, has died at age 90 in Brooklyn<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

She was remembered by her family as a deeply warm and curious person whose \u201cgift was rare,\u201d noting her ability to draw out creativity in others. She passed away on April 17.<\/p>\n

Costello\u2019s role on The Waltons<\/em> made her a memorable part of the show\u2019s early, family-centered storytelling. Outside the series, she built a respected career in theater, Broadway, film, and TV, including roles in Ordinary People<\/span><\/span> and Let\u2019s Scare Jessica to Death<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Born in Peoria<\/span><\/span>, she studied drama, performed for President John F. Kennedy, and worked for decades on stage before moving into screen acting.<\/p>\n

She was married to actor Allan Arbus<\/span><\/span> until his death in 2013 and is survived by her daughter, stepchildren, and grandchildren.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
