Scottish actress Claire Nielson<\/span><\/span>, best known for her role in the classic Fawlty Towers<\/span><\/span>, has died at the age of 89 on April 29.<\/p>\n

Born Claire Elizabeth Isbister in Glasgow<\/span><\/span> in 1937, she trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Dramatic Art before building a successful career in television and comedy. She appeared in shows like The Two Ronnies<\/span><\/span>, The Dick Emery Show<\/span><\/span>, and the film Kidnapped<\/span><\/span> alongside Michael Caine<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Nielson became especially memorable for playing Mrs. Hamilton in the famous \u201cWaldorf Salad\u201d episode of Fawlty Towers<\/span><\/span> with John Cleese<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Outside acting, she was also a writer, painter, and illustrator. She later studied English literature at King’s College, Cambridge<\/span><\/span> and wrote children\u2019s and family books.<\/p>\n

Claire Nielson is survived by her husband, actor Paul Greenwood<\/span><\/span>, and her daughter Peggy.<\/p>\n
