Betty Broderick, who became nationally known for the 1989 killings of her ex-husband Dan Broderick and his new wife Linda Kolkena, has died in prison at age 78 while serving a life sentence.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The California Department of Corrections said she died on May 8 at an outside medical facility after being transferred for higher-level care. Her death was initially listed as natural causes, with an official ruling pending.<\/p>\n

Her son said she had recently suffered serious health issues, including infections and injuries from a fall, and was in intensive care before her death. All four of her children were reportedly with her at the end.<\/p>\n

Broderick was convicted in 1991 of two counts of second-degree murder for the 1989 shooting, which followed a bitter divorce and custody battle after her husband remarried his former assistant. The case became one of the most infamous true crime stories of its time.<\/p>\n
