Cheryl Hall, the beloved British actress known for Citizen Smith<\/em> and Doctor Who<\/em>, has died at 76.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hall\u2019s death was announced by actor Robin Askwith, who dated her in the 1970s. In a heartfelt tribute, he described her as a courageous, charismatic and groundbreaking working-class actress.<\/p>\n

Hall began her career in the late 1960s and became widely known for playing Shirley Johnson in Citizen Smith<\/em>, alongside Robert Lindsay. She also appeared in the Doctor Who<\/em> story Carnival of Monsters<\/em> as Shirna.<\/p>\n

Her career spanned decades, with appearances in The Bill<\/em>, Poirot<\/em>, Inspector Morse<\/em>, Casualty<\/em>, Silent Witness<\/em> and EastEnders<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She was also once considered for the iconic role of Jo Grant in Doctor Who<\/em> before Katy Manning was cast.<\/p>\n

Outside acting, Hall entered politics, becoming a Labour candidate and later serving on Kent County Council.<\/p>\n

Remembering her, Askwith wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was my beginning. RIP Cheryl Hall.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Her passing marks the loss of a familiar face whose work entertained generations of British television viewers.<\/p>\n
