Despite efforts by paramedics, she died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">But Lightning\u2019s legacy goes far beyond her tragic final moments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">She spent more than three decades acting, directing and supporting Indigenous storytelling. She appeared in <em>Auf Wiedersehen, Pet<\/em>, <em>The West Wing<\/em>, <em>Walker, Texas Ranger<\/em>, <em>Trickster<\/em>, <em>Three Pines<\/em> and the 2025 film <em>Die, My Love<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">In 2008, she wrote, directed and starred in <em>Older Than America<\/em>, becoming the <strong>first North American Indigenous woman to direct a major feature film.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Her daughter Crystle shared a heartbreaking tribute:<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>\u201cI have lost my mother, my sons\u2019 Kohkum, my matriarch, my role model, my confidant.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Georgina Lightning leaves behind three children and a powerful legacy that helped open doors for Indigenous filmmakers and actors. \ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hollywood mourns the loss of Georgina Lightning, a trailblazer for Indigenous voices. \ud83d\udc94 Georgina Lightning, the Canadian Indigenous actor, filmmaker and advocate, has died at 63 following a tragic accident at an Indian Relay event in Alberta on September 5.
