I’d been married to Richard for three years, and our life together was happy—except for his mother, Monica.

She always acted sweet around me, calling me “darling,” but behind my back she constantly criticized me. She even tried to convince Richard to leave me for another woman.

I simply asked, “Why were you trying to get into our bedroom again?”

Monica stormed out, telling Richard he needed to reconsider the kind of woman he had married.
