I Flew to Boston After My Husband Was Injured—Then His Family Learned What I Had Been Paying For

Boston was raining when I arrived with one suitcase, a bandaged hand, and 93 missed calls.

Grant had already learned I was gone.

His mother demanded I return. Sloane sent eleven messages apologizing.

I ignored them all.

The only person I called was my attorney.

“File the divorce.”

Then Grant called.

“You left while I’m still in the hospital?”

“Yes.”

“I was injured.”

“I know.”

“You signed my surgery forms. You paid the hospital.”

“I did.”

“Then why would you leave?”

Because he still didn’t understand.

I had spent three years taking care of everyone while Grant constantly prioritized Sloane.

Finally, I told him:

“Camille will contact your attorney about the divorce.”

He went silent.

Hours later, the papers were delivered.

Judith called me furious.

“You’re his wife!”

“Temporarily.”

Then she reminded me of everything the Whitmore family had supposedly “provided” for me.

So I sent her a financial summary.

For three years, I had been paying for far more than they realized.

Grant’s private transportation.

His specialist.

Judith’s physical therapy.

Household services.

Even Sloane’s catered meals.

That evening, I canceled every automatic payment.

Nolan messaged me:

“The private kitchen account has stopped working.”

“Correct.”

Then Grant texted:

What are you doing?

I replied with the sentence I’d been afraid to say for years:

Stopping living your life for you.
