On my 30th birthday, I found a velvet jewelry box inside Simon’s jacket.

After nine years together, I thought my wait was finally over.

But inside were earrings—not an engagement ring.

That night, I finally asked Simon the question I had been afraid to ask.

“Do you actually plan to marry me?”

Instead of answering, he listed everything he thought was wrong with me—my cooking, cleaning, attitude, and all the things I supposedly failed to do for him.

Then he looked at me and said:

“I’ll put a ring on your finger when you start acting like wife material.”

I didn’t argue.

I smiled.

The next morning, I made his favorite lasagna, cleaned the apartment, and then opened a drawer in his desk.

Inside was a list.

Simon had been secretly rating me like an employee.

At the bottom, circled twice, were the words:

“Wife material — 7.2/10.”

Something inside me went completely numb.

Our families had recently given us two tickets to Las Vegas.

So I packed my suitcase, put on a simple white dress, and called my cousin Ryan to meet me there.

When Simon came home, he saw the list in my hand.

“You… you can’t do this to me.”

But I walked away.

Simon followed me to Vegas, where things got even crazier after he mistook Ryan for another man and punched him—only to discover Ryan was my cousin.

Later, Simon finally admitted the truth.

For nine years, he had been judging whether I was good enough to become his wife.

But he had never asked himself one important question:

Was he good enough to be my husband?

Then he pulled out a ring.

I said no.

Nine years ago, I wanted Simon to choose me.

That night in Vegas, I finally chose myself.

After 9 Years, I Found Out My Boyfriend Had Been Rating Me as “Wife Material” On my 30th birthday, I found a velvet jewelry box inside Simon’s jacket.
