My Sister Sold Me a Broken Car for Almost Nothing—Then Demanded It Back After I Spent $5,000 Fixing It.

My sister sold me her old car for a symbolic price. It hadn’t run in years, but I needed one for university, so I decided to restore it.

Over the next few months, I spent $5,000 of my own money on tires, paint, the interior, and engine repairs.

Finally, the car was running perfectly.

Then my sister suddenly showed up.

“I need the car back. Today.”

Her husband’s car had broken down, and she claimed the car was still hers because the ownership transfer had never been completed.

My parents sided with her.

“She’s family. Just give it back.”

But instead of arguing, I went to my drawer and pulled out every receipt from the restoration.

I handed my sister a folder.

“You can have the car back,” I said. “Just sign this agreeing to reimburse me the $5,000 I spent fixing it.”

She froze.

“I’m not paying you!”

I shrugged.

“Then you’re not getting the car.”

Her husband eventually fixed his own car.

And my restored car?

It still takes me to university every morning.

Quiet. Reliable. And completely mine.
