Then came even rarer news: both babies had Down syndrome.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"396\" data-end=\"522\">Savannah and her husband, Justin Ackerman, knew their daughters might face judgment, but Savannah saw them as \u201clittle gems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"524\" data-end=\"709\">Despite being urged to terminate the pregnancy, Savannah chose to give her babies a chance. Born at 29 weeks on May 12, 2021, Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman spent weeks in the NICU.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"865\">The twins are \u201cmo-di,\u201d meaning they had separate sacs but shared a placenta\u2014rare on its own. Adding Down syndrome makes their case about 1 in 2 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"986\">Savannah, from Middleburg, Florida, documents their journey on TikTok, where their resilience has inspired thousands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"988\" data-end=\"1090\">\u201cThey have feelings, a heartbeat, and can do everything others do\u2014just at their own pace,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1092\" data-end=\"1246\">Despite criticism online, Savannah defends her daughters fiercely: \u201cGood thing they weren\u2019t born to you\u2014they were born to me. About 33 out of every 1,000 births are twins.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And what are the chances of identical twins? Approximately every three or four births out of every 1,000 are identical twins. So again, relatively rare.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsner-a6c88ee4575c48ca0328266c574dacdb\" class=\"newsner-a6c88ee4575c48ca0328266c574dacdb newsner-bluebillywig_instream\"><\/div>\n<p>When 23-year-old Savannah Combs found out she was pregnant with twins, she was thrilled. And then she learned another rarity, they\u00a0<em>both<\/em>\u00a0had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.newsner.com\/?s=down+syndrome\">Down syndrome<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it was emotional news. Savannah was 29 weeks pregnant when she was admitted to the hospital, and delivered her daughters.
