I was seventeen when Charlotte, the prettiest girl in school, chose me as her prom date. While everyone else made fun of me, she made me feel like I mattered. That night, she told me something I never forgot: “Sometimes people just need to be chosen.”

Years later, I had built a successful life, but I had never forgotten her.

When I saw her struggling to raise her younger brother alone, I knew I had to find a way to thank her. So I requested another delivery and left a note telling her she had forgotten something.

The next evening, Charlotte returned. I invited her inside, and she froze when she saw my living room walls covered with framed photos from our prom night.

Then I whispered the nickname only she would recognize.

Her eyes widened as she finally realized who I was.
