At just 18 and 17 weeks pregnant, Brianna Rawlings was thrilled to become a mom when she received heartbreaking news: she had a rare and aggressive blood cancer, NK cell leukemia. Her earlier symptoms had been mistaken for normal pregnancy effects.<\/p>\n
Faced with a devastating choice\u2014start treatment and lose the baby, or continue the pregnancy and delay treatment\u2014Brianna chose her unborn son. Tragically, both would lose their lives.<\/p>\n
Her son, Kyden, was delivered early via emergency C-section due to a blood infection. He lived just 12 days, surrounded by his mother\u2019s love. \u201cThose 12 days were the best of my life,\u201d Brianna said.<\/p>\n
Determined to beat cancer in her son’s memory, Brianna pushed through pain and exhaustion. At first, she showed signs of recovery, but her condition worsened, and a planned bone marrow transplant had to be canceled. Her family raised funds for an expensive trial drug, but it was too late.<\/p>\n
