Pitzen, laughing throughout the video, said she let students choose whether to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and directed them toward the pride flag in place of the U.S. flag. In another clip, she declared, \u201cI pledge allegiance to the queers,\u201d while showcasing her pride-themed classroom decor.<\/p>\n

The videos sparked outrage among parents and the public, with many accusing her of disrespecting the American flag and inappropriately influencing students. In protest, parents planted flags outside the school. Critics online emphasized the flag\u2019s symbolism of freedom and sacrifice.<\/p>\n

The viral controversy, which began in 2021, led to Pitzen deleting her social media and being removed from the classroom. The case highlights ongoing debates over patriotism, free expression, and educators’ influence in schools.<\/p>\n
