Pregnancy can be challenging, both physically and emotionally, as many expectant mothers worry something could go wrong. Thankfully, most births end in relief and joy. But for Jennie Wilklow, that relief never came.<\/p>\n
Jennie had a normal pregnancy, and all check-ups showed her baby was healthy. But at 34 weeks, she needed an emergency C-section. At first, everything seemed fine\u2014her daughter screamed at birth, and Jennie smiled when she heard, \u201cShe\u2019s so beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n
Moments later, panic set in. Her daughter\u2019s skin began to harden and crack, causing open wounds. Doctors sedated Jennie, and when she woke, she learned the devastating news: her daughter Anna had Harlequin ichthyosis, a rare genetic disorder causing the skin to grow abnormally fast.<\/p>\n
The condition is often fatal in newborns. Jennie\u2019s husband was in shock, repeatedly saying, \u201cThis is bad.\u201d For a moment, Jennie even questioned whether it would be kinder if Anna didn\u2019t survive.<\/p>\n
But Anna fought through. With round-the-clock care, her parents brought her home. Jennie bathed her for hours and covered her in petroleum jelly every two hours. Even dressing her became a small victory.<\/p>\n
Despite the odds, Anna\u2019s resilience changed Jennie\u2019s perspective. She stopped setting limits and started believing in her daughter\u2019s full potential.<\/p>\n
