Eighteen-year-old Kieran Matthew avoided jail after violently attacking teacher Carol Shaw at St Paul\u2019s Academy in Dundee, leaving her permanently scarred and unable to work.<\/p>\n
On March 22 last year, Matthew grabbed Shaw in a \u201crugby-style grip\u201d and slammed her head onto concrete, knocking her unconscious and causing a serious head wound. Doctors said the injuries could have been fatal.<\/p>\n
Despite the severity, Matthew received a three-year supervision order instead of prison, after pleading guilty to assault causing permanent disfigurement and danger to life. His sentence was reduced under Scottish guidelines due to his guilty plea.<\/p>\n
The attack followed a dispute over a PE protocol. Shaw, whom Matthew trusted, was called to help but became the target. Afterward, Matthew showed no remorse, reportedly saying, \u201cShe deserved it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shaw suffers from lasting trauma and cannot return to teaching. The judge told Matthew, \u201cYou\u2019ve robbed her of her career.\u201d<\/p>\n
