Sometimes I get tired of my job\u2014waking up dreading another day at the office. But even on bad days, I never have to worry about risking my life at work.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s something many of us take for granted. Some jobs aren\u2019t just stressful\u2014they\u2019re dangerous. Take firefighting, for example. It\u2019s easy to forget how much courage it takes to simply show up for that job every day.<\/p>\n
When I was younger, I dreamt of being a firefighter\u2014if the NBA didn\u2019t work out\u2014but now, I\u2019m grateful others are willing to do it. Charging into a burning building? That\u2019s not for me.<\/p>\n
Thankfully, there are brave souls who do exactly that, whether it\u2019s rescuing people from fires or battling wildfires\u2014one of nature\u2019s most destructive forces.<\/p>\n
In countries prone to wildfires, the damage can be catastrophic. But while most people flee, firefighters go in to stop the flames and save lives.<\/p>\n
A few years ago, a massive wildfire in Portugal required over 1,100 firefighters. Amid the chaos, a powerful image emerged: a group of exhausted firefighters asleep on a lawn after 24 hours of nonstop work. Pedro Br\u00e1s shared the photo, writing: \u201cAfter a night and a day fighting the G\u00f3is Forest Fire, we were entitled to 25 minutes of river beach, although it was covered by smoke.\u201d<\/p>\n
