Even with space and care, captivity can\u2019t match life in the wild.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"240\" data-end=\"292\">Still, we had to share this incredible rescue story.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"294\" data-end=\"463\">In 1990, at the Detroit Zoo, a chimp named Jo-Jo fell into a moat after being chased by a more aggressive chimp. He struggled to stay afloat as a crowd watched in shock.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"465\" data-end=\"657\">One of them, 33-year-old truck driver Rick Swope, was visiting with his family. Seeing Jo-Jo drowning, Rick jumped into the restricted enclosure \u2014 risking his life to save the 200-pound chimp.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"859\">Chimpanzees are much stronger than humans, and the area was dangerous. But Rick didn\u2019t hesitate. After one failed attempt, he managed to pull Jo-Jo to safety. The chimp was in rough shape \u2014 but alive.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"936\">\u201cHe was looking at me.
