Three days before our Maldives anniversary trip, I had a stroke. While I lay in the hospital, unable to move or speak, Jeff called \u2014 from the airport. “Postponing costs too much,” he said. Then he hung up. That call changed everything.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One minute I was chopping vegetables, the next I was on the floor, paralyzed and terrified. The diagnosis: moderate stroke, partial facial paralysis. I was devastated \u2014 but determined.<\/p>\n

While I fought to recover, I clung to the dream of our trip. I thought Jeff would too. But instead, he went \u2014 alone. Well, not quite. He brought his secretary<\/em>, the same woman who\u2019d once wrecked my niece Ava\u2019s engagement.<\/p>\n
