With striking looks and a powerhouse voice, he helped sell over 50 million records worldwide and became a glam rock icon.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"370\" data-end=\"648\"><strong data-start=\"370\" data-end=\"410\">Born in 1945 and abandoned as a baby<\/strong>, Brian was raised by foster parents in Scotland. He discovered later in life he was the half-brother of actor Mark McManus. Rising to fame with Sweet in the mid-\u201870s, Brian embodied the era\u2019s excess \u2014 but behind the glam, trouble brewed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"650\" data-end=\"969\"><strong data-start=\"650\" data-end=\"709\">By 1979, alcoholism was affecting his health and career<\/strong>, leading to his exit from the band. His solo efforts struggled, and financial issues forced him to sell his house. Legal battles over the Sweet name and a series of health crises, including multiple heart attacks and partial paralysis, marked his final years.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"971\" data-end=\"1260\">Despite declining health, Brian continued touring with his version of Sweet. In a 1996 interview, he reflected on the toll of fame and addiction.
