Flags at Buckingham Palace have been lowered to half-mast.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"644\">The Palace praised her <strong data-start=\"544\" data-end=\"580\">lifelong dedication to charities<\/strong>, her <strong data-start=\"586\" data-end=\"607\">passion for music<\/strong>, and her empathy for young people.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"646\" data-end=\"778\">Known affectionately as <strong data-start=\"670\" data-end=\"685\">\u201cMrs Kent,\u201d<\/strong> she once taught music at a primary school where students were unaware of her royal status.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"780\" data-end=\"918\">Born <strong data-start=\"785\" data-end=\"806\">Katharine Worsley<\/strong> in Yorkshire, she joined the royal family in <strong data-start=\"852\" data-end=\"860\">1961<\/strong>, with <strong data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"884\">Princess Anne<\/strong> as a bridesmaid at her wedding.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"1045\">In 1994, she became the <strong data-start=\"944\" data-end=\"1003\">first royal in over 300 years to convert to Catholicism<\/strong>, calling it a deeply personal decision.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1047\" data-end=\"1251\">She and Prince Edward had <strong data-start=\"1073\" data-end=\"1091\">three children<\/strong>, though they suffered the stillbirth of a son, Patrick, in 1977.
