When my sister Sue begged to use my house for her son Ethan\u2019s birthday, I agreed. I\u2019d be out of town, and she needed the space. I even left snacks, party supplies, and a $400 LEGO gift for Ethan.<\/p>\n

While I was away, Sue sent sweet texts thanking me and calling me the best aunt ever. I felt proud\u2014until I got home early and found a pink balloon arch and a banner reading: \u201cCongratulations, Jessica\u2019s Baby Shower!\u201d<\/p>\n

Turns out, there had been no birthday party. Sue had rented out my house\u2014for $900<\/strong>\u2014to a woman I\u2019d never met. She threw a full baby shower, complete with catering (which\u00a0I<\/em>\u00a0unknowingly helped fund by sending her $300 \u201cfor cake and juice\u201d).<\/p>\n

When I confronted Sue, she brushed it off. \u201cYou weren\u2019t even using the house,\u201d she said. Then twisted the knife: \u201cYou\u2019re just jealous I made more money in a day than you make in a week.\u201d<\/p>\n

I banned her from my house. She lied, used me, and made me look like a party venue host to my neighbors. Worst of all, she had no remorse.<\/p>\n

When I told our mom, she said\u00a0I<\/em>\u00a0was tearing the family apart.<\/p>\n

But this isn\u2019t about money\u2014it\u2019s about trust. I would\u2019ve gladly helped if she\u2019d just been honest.<\/p>\n

So, am I really the villain for being upset? Or is it wrong to expect honesty from family?<\/p>\n
