Emma and Bruce married in 2009, raising two daughters together and blending their family with Bruce\u2019s three older children. For years, they appeared united and joyful. But in 2022, Bruce retired from acting due to health issues, and in 2023, the family confirmed his FTD diagnosis\u2014a progressive brain disease with no cure.<\/p>\n
Emma, 49, said the diagnosis finally explained years of confusion. \u201cFTD is cruel. Your brain is dying\u2026 and witnessing it is traumatic,\u201d she shared. As Bruce\u2019s condition worsened, including a severe decline in speech, the family made the difficult choice for him to live in a dedicated care home.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was best for Bruce and for our daughters,\u201d Emma said, adding that caregiving had taken a toll on her own health. Despite the separation, they remain close, cherishing quiet visits and the \u201ctwinkle in his eye\u201d that still shines through.<\/p>\n
