Take Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara, for example. In 2006, at age 66, she became the world\u2019s oldest mother after giving birth to twin boys, Christian and Pau. To achieve her dream, she sold her home and underwent IVF in California, reportedly lying about her age.<\/p>\n
Though criticized\u2014especially by her own family\u2014Maria believed people should choose when to start a family, not be bound by societal norms.<\/p>\n
Tragically, just six months after giving birth, Maria was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and died in 2009. Her family stepped in to raise the boys, who are reportedly doing well today.<\/p>\n
