When my neighbor Melissa banned my kids from the playground for\u00a0laughing too loudly<\/em>, I knew diplomacy was over.<\/p>\n

Moving to Silver Springs felt like a dream\u2014quiet streets, big yard, and space for my kids to be kids. But that dream cracked when Melissa taped a list of absurd \u201cNeighborhood Rules\u201d to our door: no laughing over 60 decibels, no running on grass, and no sidewalk chalk unless\u00a0she<\/em>\u00a0approved the color. We laughed it off\u2014until my children came home in tears, banned from the playground for\u00a0breaking her rules<\/em>.<\/p>\n
