Reports say Dakota had run off earlier that day and misbehaved when he returned home. Wilson\u2019s response was unthinkable \u2014 she <strong data-start=\"551\" data-end=\"565\">sat on him<\/strong>, pressing her <strong data-start=\"580\" data-end=\"593\">340-pound<\/strong> weight onto the 90-pound boy for about five minutes while on the phone with his caseworker.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"956\">Dakota screamed, but she thought he was pretending. When she finally rolled him over, his eyelids were pale. A child called 911, but it was too late. Dakota was airlifted to the hospital and placed on life support, passing away two days later on <strong data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"953\">April 25, 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"958\" data-end=\"1088\">An autopsy found <strong data-start=\"975\" data-end=\"1003\">severe internal injuries<\/strong> and ruled the cause of death as <strong data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1059\">mechanical asphyxia<\/strong> \u2014 he was crushed to death.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1090\" data-end=\"1215\">Tragically, just 30 minutes before the incident, Dakota had begged a neighbor to adopt him, saying his parents had hit him.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1358\">Wilson later pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and was sentenced in <strong data-start=\"1287\" data-end=\"1303\">January 2025<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"1307\" data-end=\"1330\">six years in prison<\/strong>, with one year suspended.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1460\">Dakota was remembered as a boy who \u201cloved the outdoors\u201d and \u201cmarched to the beat of his own drum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1637\">We can\u2019t bring him back, but we can make sure his story is heard.
