A Dream Vacation Turns to Tragedy<\/strong><\/p>\n

What was meant to be a joyful family getaway ended in heartbreak for the Knowles family, as they mourn the loss of 4-year-old Jaxon Knowles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During a short trip to Blackpool, Jaxon began feeling unwell, complaining of pain and fever. His mother, Sammy Knowles<\/strong>, gave him medicine and let him rest beside her \u2014 something he often did when sick. But by morning, his condition had worsened drastically.<\/p>\n

\u201cI turned on the light and saw the rash,\u201d Sammy recalled. \u201cAt first, I thought it was chickenpox \u2014 but it was much worse.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Jaxon\u2019s rash spread and he struggled to breathe, his parents called 999. Despite desperate efforts by doctors, Jaxon passed away the next morning, February 17<\/strong>, from meningococcal disease<\/strong>, a severe bacterial infection.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was fine just hours before,\u201d Sammy said through tears. \u201cIt came out of nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaxon was the couple\u2019s \u201cmiracle baby\u201d after years of IVF and miscarriages. Now, Sammy and her husband Jordan<\/strong> are determined to raise awareness about meningitis.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we can help even one family, that would mean everything,\u201d Jordan said.<\/p>\n

Each year, around 3,000 people<\/strong> in the U.S. are diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, with young children most at risk. Early symptoms often resemble common illnesses, making early diagnosis difficult.<\/p>\n

In Jaxon\u2019s memory, a charity page has been set up for Meningitis Now<\/strong>, and his favorite football club, Sheffield Wednesday<\/strong>, will honor him with a tribute during their match against Sunderland.<\/p>\n
