It’s shocking how cruel people can be to dogs, and Buddy was one victim. In April 2021, this “happy and carefree” dog was set on fire, leaving his face scorched and an extension cord around his neck. A child later confessed, but couldn’t be prosecuted due to age.
Buddy was taken in by the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi and treated by vets at Mississippi State University. Despite severe burns, Buddy began a slow, hopeful recovery. His eyesight appears intact, and doctors are repairing his eyelids surgically.
Through bandages and treatments, Buddy remained spirited. His caregivers praised his resilience, noting that his skin grafts were healing well and he was learning basic commands.
Over time, Buddy’s injuries improved, his bandages were reduced, and he slowly regained his old playful self. A major breakthrough came on August 7, when his bandages covering his eyes were removed without heavy sedation — and for the first time in months, Buddy could see.
Now happy, playful, and full of personality, Buddy still has special needs: sensitive skin, eye care, and sun protection. But his story remains one of resilience and hope, inspiring all who follow his recovery.
