23-year-old diagnosed with stage 4 cancer after doctor told him to take painkiller

Posted on November 6, 2025 By admin
A 23-year-old man from Liverpool, Kyle Kennedy, was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma after doctors initially dismissed his symptoms as swollen glands.

Kyle first sought help for neck swelling and night sweats but was told to take painkillers. When his face later became severely swollen, doctors suspected mumps or blocked glands and prescribed antibiotics. His condition worsened, and after further tests, an emergency CT scan revealed a large chest tumor that had spread to his bowel and tonsils.

Described by his sister, Kelsey Thomas, as “fit and healthy,” Kyle had been active and played padel regularly until his diagnosis. His family described the experience as “devastating.”

A GoFundMe page has raised over £19,000 to support him during his six months of chemotherapy, which has been physically demanding but has shown his determination to fight the disease.
