Epstein Emails Reignite Trump Controversy
The Jeffrey Epstein case is back in the spotlight — this time involving President Donald Trump. Newly released congressional emails show Epstein mentioned Trump several times in exchanges with Ghislaine Maxwell.
Newly released emails
Democrats in Congress published emails from 2011–2019, including one where Epstein wrote, “Of course he knew about the girls,” referring to Trump in a 2019 message to author Michael Wolff. In another from 2011, Epstein told Maxwell, “That dog that hasn’t barked is Trump,” noting a victim had “spent hours at my house with him.” Maxwell replied, “I have been thinking about that.”
The “unnamed victim”
The White House identified the victim as Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide earlier this year. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt accused Democrats of creating a “fake narrative,” emphasizing Giuffre had said Trump “was not involved in any wrongdoing.”
Trump’s past comments
Trump has long claimed he cut ties with Epstein decades ago, once saying, “He took people that work for me, and I told him, ‘Stay the hell out of here.’”
Yet in 2015, Epstein discussed with Wolff how Trump might respond if questioned about their connection. Epstein later claimed Trump “knew about the girls” and had asked Maxwell “to stop.”
Political fallout
Democrats say the emails raise new questions about Trump’s relationship with Epstein. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) called for more transparency, while House Speaker Mike Johnson pledged a vote on releasing the “Epstein documents.”
Maxwell, convicted in 2021 of child sex trafficking, is serving a 20-year federal sentence.
