The president and first lady met in 1998 and have since become one of the world’s most famous couples. Critics sometimes question Donald Trump’s worthiness, and he recently fired back.
Stealing the spotlight
Trump, known for enjoying the spotlight, sent a clear message during a White House event on November 13, where Melania spoke about her work supporting children aging out of foster care.
The new Fostering the Future executive order creates an online hub for educational and career resources, plus vouchers and grants to support youth transitioning out of foster care. Melania praised the initiative as “empathetic and strategic,” connecting government, businesses, schools, and charities.
Trump’s 7 words
At the podium, Trump complimented Melania’s linguistic skills, admitting he couldn’t match her fluency in five languages. Joking about audience reactions to their speeches, he said: “Every time I get up… they say we want our First Lady. I say, what the hell, I’m not good enough?”
He then signed the executive order and invited Melania to sign as well, noting the $25 million budget will help with housing and support for foster youth. He also acknowledged Second Lady Usha Vance’s contributions.
The harsh reality
About 400,000 children are in foster care at any time, with 20,000 aging out yearly. Only half graduate high school, 3% earn a college degree, 20% face homelessness, and roughly 50% have stable jobs by 24.
