Former US President Dick Cheney will be laid to rest today.
However, President Trump and VP JD Vance would reportedly not be there as they were not invited, local media outlets shared.
Cheney, who served as the country’s VP under George W. Bush, passed away on November 1 at the age of 84. His family shared the news through a public statement that was rolled out the next day.
An insider mentioned how he was not on the guest list for the funeral, which is a break from usual tradition. It’s customary but not required for a president to pay their respects at the funeral for any former president or vice president who dies while they happen to be in office.
Trump is currently slated to receive his intelligence briefing at 11 am, which is the same time that the funeral starts at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC. The funeral isn’t listed on his public schedule for Thursday.
In further reporting, CNN noted how Vance was also seemingly not invited. A multitude of politicians from both sides of the aisle were expected to attend the former VP’s funeral, including former Presidents Bush and Biden, and former VPs Harris, Pence, Al Gore, and Dan Quayle. The funeral is said to be invite-only, and that means it would be attended by more than 1000 guests.
