Parents will do anything to protect their children, and Celine Casey and her partner were no different.
A Rare Birthmark
When baby Vienna Brookshaw was born in April 2021 in the U.K., her mom noticed a dark mark between her eyebrows. Doctors reassured her it was harmless, but Celine worried about how it might affect her daughter emotionally.
The mark was diagnosed as congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN), a rare condition affecting about 20,000 babies. Though not dangerous, its location meant Vienna could face stares, questions, and unkind comments as she grew.
Taking Action
Unsure how the birthmark would develop, Celine wanted to protect her daughter from potential emotional pain. When the NHS denied surgery—considering it cosmetic—the couple turned to crowdfunding.
In 24 hours, they raised $52,000, though additional costs brought the total to $79,000. With support, Vienna underwent surgery to remove the mark.
A Happy Outcome
Now three, Vienna’s birthmark is gone, leaving only a small scar. Her parents continue to share updates, proud of her recovery. After three surgeries, she is healthy, happy, and thriving—no further procedures needed.
