A five-year-old boy is being hailed as a hero after waking up to flames by his bed Sunday morning and making sure his family of nine escaped.
Noah Woods, 5, woke to an electrical fire in the bedroom he shared with his two-year-old sister Lily. He grabbed Lily and the family dog, escaped through a window, then ran back to wake his uncle so the rest of the family could get out.
Thanks to Noah’s quick actions, all nine family members survived. Noah suffered only a small burn on his wrist, though several relatives were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
The Bartow County Fire Department praised him, naming him an Honorary Bartow County Firefighter and awarding him a Lifesaving Award.
“If it wasn’t for Noah, we may not be here today,” his grandfather said. Their home was destroyed, but the family is grateful to be alive.
