In a desperate move, Betty and I set up “harmless” lunch dates with other potential partners for our children, but Kira and Marcus caught on, confronting us. “We love each other,” Kira said firmly. “Accept it.”

At the wedding rehearsal, Bradley and I were at odds, but he chose to support Kira. I finally gave in, watching them through the restaurant window. Betty joined me, and after some awkward words, we both acknowledged that as long as Kira and Marcus were happy, that’s what mattered.
